Course Description: This course introduces students to the fundamental aspects of theatre production, emphasizing acting techniques, stagecraft, and teamwork. Students will explore various roles in a production, from auditions to performances, gaining practical skills in professional theatre and other professions.

Goals and Objectives

Develop advanced acting techniques and skills

Demonstrate Character analysis through the application of a variety of acting techniques and script analysis.

Develop advanced theatre skills in Technical Design

Understand the stages of a theatrical production from auditions and rehearsals to performance. Appreciate the importance of theatre in expressing ideas and emotions.

Enhance Collaboration and ensemble skills

Through group projects and ensemble-based activities, students will learn the importance of teamwork, communication, and mutual support in creating cohesive and effective theatrical performances and gain an appreciation for teamwork and collaboration in theatre.

Build Confidence

Gain confidence in public speaking, performing, and expressing oneself creatively in front of an audience. To be able to defend and articulate one’s thoughts to others.

Prepare for advanced theatre and other professions

Building a comprehensive portfolio by acquiring hands-on experience and refining student’s abilities through practical application and learning. Focusing on hard and soft skills, demonstrating technical proficiency, and highlighting the ability to collaborate, innovate, and problem-solve effectively.

Fall Musical Exam

As part of our Performing Arts curriculum, our class will be watching the musical Come From Away for our Theatre exam. This Tony Award-winning musical tells the true story of the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, and the extraordinary kindness shown to nearly 7,000 airline passengers who were unexpectedly stranded there following the events of September 11, 2001. Through uplifting music, dynamic storytelling, and an ensemble cast, the musical explores themes of compassion, resilience, community, empathy, and the power of human connection.

Please note:

Come From Away is recommended for general audiences but contains discussions of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, moments of emotional intensity, and some mild language as part of the historical context.
For this classroom viewing, we will skip or mute any content that may not be suitable for middle school students to ensure the musical remains appropriate.
If you choose not to allow your child to participate, they will complete an alternative exam in another supervised setting.
