Life imitates art when over-the-top theatre director Sinclair Hemmings winds up dead for real in this madcap meta comedy. It’s opening night of A Spot of Murder, a brand new murder mystery play. Just before the play’s big reveal, Sinclair’s body falls onstage, turning the theatre into a crime scene. Detective Drake is determined to find the killer, but it turns out Sinclair had a lot of enemies. From the playwright to the designers to his own stepmother, it seems there’s nobody Sinclair hasn’t alienated. This Murder Was Staged is a family-friendly farce with in-jokes and character types any theatre person will recognize. It can be performed with a cast of eight to 25 actors and has minimal set requirements, making it ideal for high school or community theatre groups.
