Theatre 2

Course Description: Theatre 2 builds upon the foundational skills learned in Theatre 1. Students will further explore various aspects of theatre, including acting techniques, stagecraft, and script analysis. Emphasis will be placed on stagecraft and design, developing collaboration and creativity in a supportive environment.

Goals and Objectives

Understand and apply basic principles of stagecraft

By the end of the semester, students will be able to apply stagecraft principles practically in a collaborative setting, contributing effectively to the production process.

Develop advanced technical theatre skills

Through hands-on projects and assignments, students will gain proficiency in using stagecraft tools and equipment safely and effectively.

Enhance Collaboration

By setting achievable performance goals and milestones, students will develop a sense of accomplishment and pride in their progress throughout the semester. Students will explore different aspects of theatre production to discover and cultivate confidence in various creative roles.

Build Confidence

Students will develop effective communication skills, including active listening and clear expression of ideas, to facilitate collaborative efforts in group projects and rehearsals.

Analyze and interpret scripts with deeper insight

Students will analyze scripts to identify themes, character motivations, and dramatic elements, deepening their understanding of storytelling in theatre.

Fall Musical Exam

As part of our Performing Arts curriculum, our class will be watching The Phantom of the Opera musical film for our Theatre exam. This celebrated Andrew Lloyd Webber production brings Gaston Leroux’s classic story to life through powerful music, dramatic staging, and visually stunning storytelling. The film explores themes such as identity, obsession, compassion, and the artistic world of the Paris Opera House.

Please note:

The Phantom of the Opera is rated PG-13 for thematic elements, mild violence, and brief suggestive material.
For this classroom viewing, we will skip or mute any content that may not be suitable for middle school students to ensure the film remains appropriate.
If you choose not to allow your child to participate, they will complete an alternative exam in another supervised setting.
